We talked with LeBaron McClary regarding his vision and aspirations for Liberty Collegiate Academy and shared our conversation below.
Principal McClary, what are your goals and priorities for the school year?
This school year, our overarching aim is to transition from “schooling” to holistic education. While we are committed to enhancing academic performance, we equally aspire to enrich the overall experience of our scholars. We strive to celebrate each scholar for their unique contributions to our community. Our mission is to foster a genuine love for learning, providing an environment where scholars can be their authentic selves, achieve success, and receive recognition for all their accomplishments. Together, we aim to redefine excellence!
What strategies do you have in mind for supporting scholar academic achievement and growth?
We believe that enhancing teaching and learning is pivotal to supporting academic achievement and growth for our scholars. This year, we will focus on providing individualized growth plans, ample resources, and effective coaching for our teachers, ensuring they have the support needed to foster scholar success. Additionally, recognizing the rich knowledge our scholars bring, we are committed to tapping into their existing strengths and creating culturally sustaining environments that promote academic excellence.
How do you plan to address any challenges or concerns within the school, such as discipline issues or academic performance gaps?
Education is a profoundly human endeavor, and with that comes the inevitability of challenges and problems. We believe addressing these challenges directly and collaboratively as a community is crucial. Through the establishment of our Family Advisory Board and Scholar Voice Council, and in partnership with our dedicated teachers, we aim to respond to any issues promptly and effectively, ensuring our scholars receive the best educational experience possible. Transparency and communication are essential to our success.
Please tell us about any upcoming changes or initiatives you plan to implement.
This year, we are dedicated to creating inclusive spaces and inviting all voices to join us at the table. We are thrilled to introduce several key initiatives, including our Family Advisory Board (FAB), Scholar Voice Council (SVC), and the Circle of Fathers Fellowship. Through our partnerships with FAB and SVC, we aim to ensure that both scholars and families feel seen and heard. Additionally, we are committed to engaging fathers more intentionally and encouraging their active participation and involvement in the school community.
