Unlocking Leadership Potential:
The Role of the National Beta Club at Reimagine Prep
Reimagine Prep (RP), one of our high-performing middle schools in Jackson, MS, takes pride in nurturing well-rounded individuals. One way it achieves this is through its association with the National Beta Club, the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. Established as a co-curricular honors program, the Beta Club emphasizes academic achievement, artistic creativity, critical thinking skills, and collaborative teamwork. These skills instill essential leadership qualities in its members.
In the Junior Beta division, encompassing grades 6-8, scholars are selected based on their performance in the Mississippi State Test (MAAP). Junior Beta scholars are those who have scored at Performance Levels 4 and 5, showcasing their academic strengths. Meanwhile, in the Elementary division (grades 4-5), scholars performing at or above grade level on the Fall Star Assessment are identified. We invite qualifying scholars and their families to join the Beta Club, ensuring it attracts those who embody academic excellence.
A Meeting of Leaders
Recently, RP organized a Beta Leadership Summit, reinforcing the importance of communication, following directives, and teamwork. Scholars received Beta lanyards, symbolizing their commitment to essential skills in academics and personal life.
A core tenet of the Beta Club is community service. During the spring semester, every scholar must participate in some form of community service. We believe this will foster a sense of responsibility and civic engagement. This commitment to service aligns with the broader goal of developing socially responsible leaders.
Building New Leaders
Looking ahead, Reimagine Prep has set its sights on the Mississippi Beta Convention scheduled for February 2024 in Biloxi, Mississippi. To actualize this, scholars need to contribute about $230, covering one-night travel and lodging, convention fees, food, and a Beta T-shirt. The school is actively collecting deposits and seeking donors to support this enriching experience. The convention offers an educational opportunity for members to showcase leadership skills on a larger stage.
Leading the RP Beta Club are devoted sponsors and educators: Sherri Griffin, De’Ryan Shanklin, and Dr. Pallascene Cole. Their guidance is pivotal for the club’s success and growth at Reimagine Prep.
In a recent induction ceremony, RP welcomed 11 fifth graders and 33 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders into the esteemed ranks of the Beta Club. These scholars now join a community that values leadership, service, and academic excellence.
Reimagine Prep champions National Beta Club values, transforming scholars into future leaders. The Beta Club serves as a beacon, guiding scholars toward a path of excellence, leadership, and community impact.
