Last Tuesday, RePublic Schools hosted a grand opening ceremony and breakfast at Reimagine Prep - Mississippi's first public charter school.
Scholars and staff were honored to host supporters, families, and elected officials from across the state in celebration of Reimagine Prep, and in support of our collective mission to reimagine public education in the Magnolia State. While multiple media outlets came out to cover the momentous event, this account from the Clarion Ledger captures the excitement and enthusiasm that reverberated across the school.
Governor Phil Bryant and Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves each spoke about their respective hopes and dreams for Reimagine Prep students, and about the importance of school choice for families in Mississippi.
"Many of us enter public service to make a meaningful impact in our community and our state. I think anyone who walks through this school will see the difference it will make for these students. My strong support of school choice is based on one simple philosophy: I believe that every child - regardless of what his or her parents do for a living, or his or her zip code - deserves an opportunity to receive a quality education. Public charter schools allow students to escape a failing school and broaden their horizons." — Lt. Governor Tate Reeves
Student ambassadors Chyna Harris and Edward Wilson, Jr. (pictured below) spoke compellingly about their experiences as Reimagine Prep scholars. Edward didn't miss the opportunity to announce to the crowd his candidacy for President - we will certainly be looking for his name on the ballot around 2040.
