A(nother) Historic Year

The 2014-2015 academic results were officially released last week, and RePublic Schools had another historic year.

Liberty Collegiate Academy, for the second consecutive year, was named a Reward School by the Tennessee Department of Education (defined as a school that landed in the top 5% of public schools in the state) for both student growth and absolute achievement. Liberty was one of only nine schools across the entire state that earned Reward School designation in both categories.

To date, Liberty Collegiate and Nashville Prep are the only two charter schools in Tennessee history to ever earn this dual distinction. Since the TNDOE first identified Reward Schools in 2012, Liberty is one of only two schools in Davidson County that has earned Reward School status in both categories for two consecutive years.

There were many other highlights across RePublic's existing schools, and some of the most notable are outlined below:

RePublic's schools in Nashville (Liberty Collegiate Academy, Nashville Prep, and Nashville Academy of Computer Science), on average, outperformed the district (MNPS), state, and Davidson charters in every tested subject.

After four years, it is particularly compelling to see the performance of our founding 8th grade scholars compared to 8th grade students across the district, state, and other MNPS charters.

Liberty’s 5th grade had the highest Reading and Science growth in the entire state.  All in all, RePublic accounted for the 1st (LCA), 3rd (NACS), and 7th (NP) highest Reading growth for 5th grade in Nashville. Students matriculate into RePublic Schools in 5th grade, so it's particularly important to grow quickly in this first year.

NOTE: Red dots represent public charter schools.

  • Liberty had the highest 8th grade TCAP Math absolute results of any open enrollment public school in Nashville and exceeded every magnet except for one.
  • Liberty’s 6th grade Science absolute results were the highest of all public schools in Nashville (including magnets).
  • Liberty and Nashville Prep were the two highest performing open enrollment public schools in Nashville for 8th grade Reading and Science.
  • Nashville Prep was the highest performing open enrollment public school in Nashville in 7th grade Math, Reading, and Science - and Liberty's 7th grade ranked third highest in these same subjects.

Achievements like these are only possible through meticulous planning, hard work, undying optimism, and a collaborative effort on the part of the hundreds of people in RePublic's ecosystem: scholars, families, staff, and our many partners and allies in this work.

Our newest scholars in Jackson have big shoes to fill - but here's to an even stronger 2015-2016.
